Ways to Give to The Outside Foundation
Cash Gifts
Donations made by check, credit card, or money order are among the most common and impactful ways to support The Outside Foundation. These gifts directly fuel our mission to get kids outside and protect our local waterways.
Please make checks payable to The Outside Foundation, and send to 50 Shelter Cove Lane, Suite H, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 29928. You can click "donate" to make an online donation.

IRA Charitable Rollover
If you are age 72 or older and must take annual Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) from your IRA, you may donate up to $100,000 per year directly to The Outside Foundation as a qualified charitable distribution. This gift can reduce your taxable income while making a meaningful investment in youth outdoor education and environmental stewardship. Couples filing jointly may each contribute up to $100,000.

Gifts of Securities
Donating appreciated stocks or other securities is an excellent way to maximize your impact. In many cases, donors may deduct the fair market value of the gift (up to 30% of adjusted gross income when itemizing), with unused deductions carried over for up to five years. Even better, capital gains tax on the appreciated asset is avoided, ensuring the full value goes to support our programs.

Real Estate
The Outside Foundation can accept gifts of real property, including personal residences, vacation homes, farmland, commercial buildings, and undeveloped land. When property has been owned for more than one year, donors may receive a deduction based on fair market value and avoid capital gains tax. (Please note: deductions may be limited for property with an existing mortgage or loan.)

Life Insurance
A gift of life insurance allows you to make a significant charitable contribution. By transferring ownership of a policy to The Outside Foundation, you may receive an income tax deduction for the policy’s cash value.

Planned Gifts
If you wish to leave a legacy that supports future generations, consider naming The Outside Foundation in your will or estate plan. Planned gifts can be made through cash, property, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after distributions to other beneficiaries—ensuring long-term support for youth access to the outdoors and environmental protection.

Deferred Gifts
Including The Outside Foundation in your estate plan allows you to support our mission in the future while preserving financial flexibility today. These gifts often provide meaningful tax benefits and lasting impact.

Stock Gifts
You may also choose to make a gift of stock or other marketable securities. These contributions can offer valuable tax advantages while directly supporting our work in the Lowcountry.

Give Through Your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)
Recommending a grant from your Donor-Advised Fund is an easy and effective way to support The Outside Foundation’s mission to connect people to the outdoors and protect our Lowcountry waters. Because your contributions to a DAF are already tax-deductible, your gift can go directly to making an impact—no additional paperwork or tax implications required. Simply log in to your DAF account, search for The Outside Foundation, and recommend a grant today..
