Broad Creek Clean Up Success

Big thanks to the 31 volunteers who helped make today's Broad Creek Clean Up a success despite the cooler-than-expected weather! All kinds of trash and marine debris were removed from our beautiful salt marsh and creek banks, including buckets, fishing line, beer cans and bottles, plastic wrappers, straws, PVC pipe, plastic bags, styrofoam, and a giant plastic owl - all potentially life-threatening to our wildlife. In total 196 pieces of debris weighing approximately 150 pounds. Wow! Thanks to the ladies from Save the Loggerhead Sea Turtles: "Turtle Trackers" group, Girl Scout Troop 118 from HHI, Ron and the staff of Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina, Jim and Nancy Bricker, and my teammates from Outside Hilton Head: Alexa Broadbent Nicklas BeardenHannah Quast Kurt Hansen Brady Boone. Thanks also to Mike Overtonand Outside Hilton Head for the use of the kayaks and kayaking equipment.

Good news! The Broad Creek is not only an amazing tidal salt marsh to explore, observe wildlife, and enjoy - it's also pretty clean! Thanks everyone! #protectwhatyoulove Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
