February 24, 2016 (Hilton Head Island, SC) – Enjoy a day on the water while giving back to the community! The Outside Foundation will host a kayak based clean-up of the Broad Creek on Sunday, March 13th from 10am – 2pm at Shelter Cove Marina. Volunteers are needed and invited.

The event made possible through donated kayak rentals from Outside Hilton Head as well as a grant from Beaufort County Public Works’ ‘Keep Beaufort County Beautiful’ project to cover cleaen-up and operating supplies. Publix grocery store will provide refreshments for vounteers.

Those interesting in volunteering for the event can call Outside Hilton Head at (843)686-6996 to reserve a kayak for use free of charge or they may bring their own kayaks. Power boats are also welcome. This is the first clean-up in 2016 hosted by the Outside Foundation, with an additional 3 scheduled around Hilton Head and Bluffton this year. 2015 clean-ups collected over three tons of trash out of local waterways.

“This event is a great way to give back to our community and have fun doing it! The Broad Creek supports a wide variety of the island's flora and fauna, and we all have a responsibility to preserve its health for future Hilton Head Islanders. I encourage all Island and Bluffton residents to come out for this festive day on the water!” said Jean Fruh, the event’s organizer.

This cleanup is made possible by a grant from Beaufort County Public Works ‘Keep Beaufort County Beautiful’ project, which is an affiliate of ‘Keep America Beautiful’. The projects goal is to ‘educate individuals about litter prevention and ways to reduce, reuse, recycle, and properly manage waste materials.’ Outside Hilton Head will be providing free use of it's kayak fleet to volunteers as well as recycling over 90% of trash collected.
